Cardinals set to host Abilene Christian

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball program is looking to bounce back against Abilene Christian, in the second meeting of the programs this season, on Saturday afternoon in the Montagne Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:02 p.m. (CT) and is slated for a ESPN+ broadcast.

The Cardinals (9-12, 5-7 Southland) drop a 53-29 decision to Central Arkansas on Wednesday night.  Lamar is led by redshirt senior Amber Vidal and senior Briana Laidler. Vidal currently averages 12.7 points per game while averaging 76 percent from the free throw line. Laidler is averaging 8.0 points per game and bringing down 7.9 rebounds a game.

Abilene Christian (16-4, 8-3 Southland) is coming into the matchup after defeating Northwestern State, 84-69, on Wednesday. The Wildcats are led by seniors Dominique Golightly and Breanna Wright. Wright averages 16.8 points per game and shoots 44 percent from beyond the arc, while Golightly averages 15.3 points a game and shoots 42 percent from beyond the arc.

This will mark the 11th meeting between the programs on the hardwood as the Cardinals lead the series 6-4 over the Wildcats. Abilene Christian captured the first meeting of the programs in the 2019-20 season in Abilene by a score of 78-72.

RECAPPING OUR LAST GAME
  • The Lamar University women's basketball program fell to Central Arkansas on Wednesday night in the Farris Center by a score of 53-29.
  • The Cardinals found a little grove in the fourth where they finished shooting 25 percent in the frame, but it was not enough as the Sugar Bears took the victory, 53-29. Lamar falls to 9-12 overall and 5-7 in Southland play, while Central Arkansas improves to 10-11 overall and 6-6 in Southland play. Laidler finished the night with five points, eight rebounds and four blocks.
LAST TIME WE MET
  • With a career-high 29 points for Sophomore Angel Hastings, the Cardinals fell to Abilene Christian on Saturday afternoon in the Moody Coliseum, 78-72
  • The Cardinals turned to sophomore Angel Hastings and redshirt senior Amber Vidal to help get the offense back on track. The duo turned out 19 points combined in the first half. Vidal added four rebounds and a block in the first half to help Lamar pull to within nine at half, 42-31.
  • Junior Jadyn Pimentel added to her steal total with four on the afternoon. Her season total comes to 50 and moves into the Top 5 nationally in steals.
