Women's Hoops Heads to UCA

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball program will look to keep in the win column when they head to Conway, Ark. to square off against Central Arkansas on Wednesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (CT).

The Cardinals (9-11, 5-6 Southland) captured the first edition of the Battle of the Border on Saturday with an 87-69 decision over McNeese. Led by freshman Malay McQueen, who finished with a career-high in points (29) and steals (6), Lamar was able to hold the Cowgirls to just 35 percent from the field.

Central Arkansas (9-11, 5-6 Southland) is going into the contest following a victory over Northwestern State, 51-44. The Sugar Bears are led by senior Taylor Sells, who averages 9.5 points per game, while junior Hannah Langhi leads the defense with 5. 9 rebounds per game.

This will mark the 20th meeting between the programs on the hardwood as the Cardinals lead the series 11-8 over the Sugar Bears. The Cardinals captured the previous meeting over the Sugar Bears, 57-37, in Beaumont.

RECAPPING OUR LAST GAME
  • The Lamar University women's basketball program captured the win in the first edition of the Battle of the Border over McNeese, 87-69, backed by a career afternoon for freshman Malay McQueen, who put up a career-high 29 points.
  • The Cardinals used an 8-0 run over the first two and a half minutes in the second quarter to push their lead to 37-20 before the Cowgirls sank a basket to end the run. McNeese made had some huge shots from Regan Bolton to help shrink the Cardinal lead, but sophomore Umaja Collins tallied a team-high six rebounds in the first half to help seduce the Cowgirl comeback with Lamar taking the lead into halftime, 39-36.
  • Coming out of the break, the Cardinals took the lead and never looked back as they went on the capture the first edition of the Battle of the Border, 87-69, over the Cowgirls. Lamar improves to 9-11 overall and 5-6 in the Southland, while McNeese falls to 5-15 overall and 2-9 in conference play.
LAST TIME WE MET
  • After being tied at halftime, the Cardinals of Lamar University shot 52 percent in the second half and 72 percent in the third quarter pulling away from Central Arkansas for a 57-37 victory.
  • Moe Kinard led a trio of LU players in double-figures as she scored 18 points. Chastadie Barrs recorded her second straight triple-double (10 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) in the contest. This is her eighth triple-double of her career and is a Southland Conference record. Barrs also led the Cards with six steals.
  • Over the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, Lamar grew its lead to 19 points, 49-30, after a fast break layup by Miles. On the next possession for the Cardinals, Barrs collected her tenth rebound of the game giving her back-to-back games with a triple double. Later in the quarter, Kinard found Jadyn Pimentel for a three, putting the Cards ahead by 22, 57-35, the largest lead of the game. LU came away with a 57-37 victory for its 36th straight win at home and sixth straight.
