BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball program will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday night when they host Sam Houston State at the Montagne Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
The Cardinals (9-15, 5-10 Southland) dropped a 72-59 defeat to Houston Baptist on Saturday in Houston. Lamar is led by sophomore
Angel Hastings, who averages 12.8 points per game and is coming off back-to-back 20-point performances against Nicholls (23) and Houston Baptist (26). Senior
Briana Laidler leads the Lamar defense with an average of 8.2 rebounds and 1.38 blocks per game.
Sam Houston State (17-7, 12-3 Southland) is coming off a win over Central Arkansas, 73-58, in Huntsville. The Bearkats are led by sophomore Amber Leggett who is averaging 15.5 points per game. Defensively, Sam Houston State is led by redshirt senior La'Sha Haynes, who averages 7.1 rebounds per game.
This will mark the 64
th meeting between the programs on the hardwood as the Cardinals lead the series 37-27 over the Colonels with the Bearkats capturing the first meeting of 2020 between the teams, 68-47.

- The Lamar University women's basketball program fell on Saturday afternoon in Houston, Texas to Houston Baptist by a final decision of 72-59.
- Lamar was led by sophomore Angel Hastings, who finished the night shooting 10-for-17 from the field that included 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. The San Antonio, Texas native, finished the afternoon with 26 points, four rebounds and two assists.
- Senior Briana Laidler picked up her fourth double-double of the season in the loss with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Port Orange, Fla., native, finished the afternoon shooting 5-for-7 from the field.

- The Bearkats out-scored Lamar from the bench in the first half, 17-8. Sam Houston State was led by Faith Cook, who finished the night with 15 points, three assists and one rebound.
- Leading the Cardinals was redshirt senior Amber Vidal and Laidler. Vidal recorded her 10th consecutive double-digit scoring performance when she finished the loss with 14 points and three rebounds. Sophomore Angel Hastings tallied 11 points with two rebounds.
