Cardinals Travel North to Battle TCU

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball program will go back on the road and this contest will take place in Fort Worth, Texas at the Schollmaier Arena on the camps of TCU with tip off scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.

Leading the Cards through five games on the season is junior guard Angel Hastings who boasts a points per game average of 10.6 points and adds on 1.6 rebounds a game and is currently third in the Southland in free-throw percentage at 92.9 percent. Preseason All-Conference selection senior Jadyn Pimentel is second behind Hastings in scoring for the Cards with an 8.8 average while tacking on 2.8 assists per game.

The Horned Frogs are led by Big 12 Preseason All-Conference First Team honoree Lauren Heard. Heard leads TCU at 19.0 points per game and is helpful on the offensive end at 5.7 assists per game. Yummy Morris leads the TCU defense with 6.0 rebounds per game and a 1.3 blocks per game average.

The Cardinals will be back at home on Wednesday, December 16th when they host SLC foe Southeastern Louisiana in a non-conference matchup at the Montagne.  Lamar will then end 2020 on the road first at Texas State on Dec. 19 then heading to Austin to square off with Texas on Dec. 29.

  • Saturday's afternoon game will be streamed on the Big 12 Now on ESPN+ with Ron Thurlin on play-by-play and Mike Peterson at color analyst.
LAST TIME WE PLAYED
  • For the first time in over nine months, the Lamar university women's basketball was able to host basketball in the Montagne on Saturday afternoon as the bested the Texans of Tarleton State, 73-58, to capture the first win of the season.
  • The Cardinals (1-4) held the first quarter advantage throughout the frame. Junior Angel Hasting scored the first of many buckets on the night within 30 seconds of the contest tipping off. Sophomore Malay McQueen notched her second straight start and finished the first quarter with five points. The Big Red offense was lights out in the first as they shot a staggering 53.3 percent. The stout Cardinal defense limited the Texans to a 20 percent shooting percentage in the first.
  • The Cardinals had three double-digit scorers on the night with Hastings, Wilson and Pimentel all scoring 11 points in the contest. Junior Umaja Collins added nine points on the afternoon. Pimentel added six rebounds and three steals to her stat line, while Galloway add a season-high 10 rebounds in the contest.
NEWCOMERS MAKING AN IMPACT
  • The Cardinal newcomers have held their own since stepping on campus; counting for 456 minutes of time on the court.
  • Freshmen Bebe Galloway and M'Kayla Malone, as well as junior transfer Anyssia Gibbs, have made an appearance in all five LU contests on the year while Galloway and Gibbs have registered starts in all five contests.
  • Freshman Dijone' Flowers made her first collegiate appearance back on Nov. 25 and tallied her first collegiate points in the win over Tarleton State (Dec. 5).
SERIES HISTORY
  • This marks the eighth meeting of the programs with the Horned Frogs leading the series, 5-2, over the Cards.
  • The last time the programs met came just four years ago when the Cards faced off against TCU in the 2018 WNIT Tournament where the Horned Frogs grabbed an 80-68 win.
