Hoops Sets Focus on Nicholls

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Cardinals are looking to bounce back against Nicholls, after dropping a nail biter to Abilene Christian, on Wednesday night in Thibodaux, La. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (CT) from David R. Stopher Gymnasium.
 
The Cardinals (6-7, 2-2 Southland) are coming off a defeat on Jan. 4 to Abilene Christian. Sophomore Angel Hastings recorded a new career-high in the loss, posting 29 points on 9-for-21 from the field. Hastings tallied five three-pointers, while junior Jadyn Pimentel tallied eight points and four steals.
 
The Colonels (3-10, 0-4 Southland) come into the matchup after dropping their previous contest to Sam Houston State, 87-71. Nicholls is led by redshirt senior Airi Hamilton, who averages 11.3 points per game and scored a team-high 17 points in the loss to Sam Houston State.
 
This will mark the 41st meeting between the programs on the hardwood, with the Cardinals holding the series advantage, 24-16. The Cardinals captured the previous meeting, 78-65, over the Colonels.
 
STANDOUT STAT
  • Sophomore Angel Hastings recorded a new career-high of 29 points on 9-21 shooting from the floor. She finished the afternoon shooting 5-for-11 from the perimeter.
 
RECAPPING OUR LAST GAME
  • With a career-high 29 points for Sophomore Angel Hastings, the Cardinals fell to Abilene Christian on Saturday afternoon in the Moody Coliseum, 78-72.
  • Junior Jadyn Pimentel added to her steal total with four on the afternoon. Her season total comes to 50 and moves into the Top 5 nationally in steals. She ranks third in the nation with 4.17 SPG.
  • Redshirt Senior Amber Vidal helped the Cardinal offense with 10 points. She also picked up five rebounds and three assists in the loss.
 
 
LAST TIME WE MET
  • The Lamar University Cardinals remained unbeaten in Southland Conference play on Wednesday night after a 78-65 victory over Nicholls. The win for the Cards is its 38-straight victory at the Montagne Center.
  • The Cards had four players score in double-figures led by Miya Crump with 22 points. Moe Kinard followed with 21. Jadyn Pimentel and Chastadie Barrs rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 and 11 points respectfully.
