BEAUMONT, Texas – After capturing their first win of 2020 against Nicholls, the Lamar University women's basketball program will head back home for a contest against Houston Baptist on Jan. 11 in the Montagne Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (CT) and is to be broadcasted on ESPN3.
The Cardinals (7-7, 3-2 Southland) will welcome the Huskies to the Montagne Center on Saturday after defeating Nicholls on Jan. 8, 84-78. In the win, sophomore
Angel Hastings led the way with 22 points, and senior
Briana Laidler captured her second double-double of the year with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Houston Baptist (4-9, 0-4 Southland) comes into the contest after dropping their last outing to Northwestern State, 69-60. The Huskies are led by junior Megan Valdez-Crader, who is averaging 10.0 points per game. Valdez-Crader also averages 2.17 steals per game.
This will mark the 17
th meeting between the programs on the hardwood, with the Cardinals controlling the series, 14-2. The Cardinals have won seven of the previous eight meetings, with the last meeting coming in a 97-49 win for Lamar.
STANDOUT STAT
- In the win over Nicholls, the Cardinals had four players in double-digit scoring. Sophomore Angel Hastings had a game-high 20 points. It marked her second consecutive contest with 20-points or more.

- Senior Briana Laidler had a standout performance as she finished the night with 10 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. This marks her second double-double this season with the previous coming against Howard Payne when she finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

- With 3:35 left in the second quarter, Chastadie Barrs set the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball history when she recorded her 625-career steal breaking the NCAA record. Lamar University came away with a 97-49 victory over Houston Baptist.
- Barrs, who broke Natalie White's 25-year steal record of 624, ended the game with 10 steals. She has 627 steals for her career at Lamar.
