LU Hosts Non-Conference Doubleheader

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University men's tennis team will host a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday when they return to action against Dartmouth and Georgia Southern. The matches will be the final two warm-ups for LU (5-11) before entering Southland Conference play four days later.

Winners in three of their past four matches, the Cardinals are playing some of their best tennis of the season. The Red and White are coming off an impressive 6-1 victory over Bucknell just over a week ago where their only losses on the day came at No. 2 doubles and No. 6 singles. As a team, the Cards' lone setback during that stretch was to a South Alabama squad that has received top 25 consideration.

The Big Green heads south in a similar situation as the Cardinals. Dartmouth (7-5) has also won three of its last four matches and is coming off a 6-1 decision over Boston. Dartmouth's only loss during that stretch was a two-point decision against Wichita State. In Dartmouth's three victories during that stretch they outscored their opponents 14-1.

The match against the Big Green will begin at 10 a.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center on campus. It will be the first of two matches on the day for the Cardinals. Following the match against Dartmouth, the Cardinals will return to the Thompson Family Tennis Center courts to take Georgia Southern.

The Eagles (11-5) make their way to Beaumont looking to bounce back from a 4-3 setback at Belmont. Prior to the loss, Georgia Southern rattled off five consecutive victories. The match against the Eagles is slated to begin at 3 p.m.

The doubleheader will be the Cardinals' final tune-up before opening conference play Saturday against New Orleans. Big Red will have one more non-conference match remaining this season. That match will be Saturday, Mar. 30th against Rice in Beaumont.
