BEAUMONT, Texas – Reaching the midway point of the current eight-match road swing, the Lamar University Cardinals travel to California to compete in the Mountain Pacific Invite hosted by the University of the Pacific. The Cardinals will play one match Saturday and two matches Sunday.
The Cardinals will be one of seven teams competing in the tournament. The rest of the Mountain Pacific field consists of host Pacific, Brown, Loyola Marymount, Hawaii, Fresno State and San Francisco.
The Cardinals will open the tournament Saturday with a match against host Pacific. The second-round matchup will be either Brown or Loyola Marymount based on the outcomes of the first-round games.
The Cardinals (2-9) head west looking to get back in the win column. The youthful Cards have dropped four straight following a 4-3 victory during the team's last homestand. Pacific is in a similar situation with a 2-6 (.250) overall record and has dropped three consecutive heading into the weekend tournament. The Tigers last win came back on February 10
th against Hawaii, 4-2. It was a two-match road trip to Hawaii that saw Pacific record a split. The Tigers are coming off a 4-3 setback at New Mexico two days ago.
There is no official start time for the Cardinals' first match. LU plays in the second contest of the day and the first match gets started at 8 a.m.
Loyola Marymount is 1-5 on the season and has dropped consecutive matches entering the weekend. The Lions' lone victory came at home against New Mexico. Brown has jumped out of the 2019 gates quickly posting a 7-3 (.700) overall record and has won two straight and three of its past four.
