BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's basketball team hits the road for two-straight games starting at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Cards and Islanders square off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23 from the American Bank Center.

On Tuesday afternoon,
Chastadie Barrs was named to the Naismith women's Defensive Player of the Year award list. She is one of 10 players named to the watch list. Barrs is the first player from the Southland Conference to be named to the Naismith Women's Defensive Player of the Year award list.

The Islanders are coming off a 46-44 victory against Stephen F. Austin, which was the first loss in SLC action for SFA. A&M-Corpus Christi held the Ladyjacks to six points in the second quarter and led 26-20 at halftime. La'Janeira Robinson led the Islanders with 13 points. The Islanders defense limited the Ladyjacks as SFA shot 34 percent in the contest and were 3-for-15 on three-pointers. The win for A&M-Corpus Christi snapped a two-game losing streak.

A&M-Corpus Christi has two players averaging double-figures. They are led by Dalesia Booth, who is scoring 12.3 points per game. She scored a career-high 33 points on Dec. 31st. Alexes Bryant follows as she averages 10.7 points per game. Bryant also lead the team with 59 blocks. Bryant also leads the team in rebounding averaging 6.9 rebounds per game.

As a team, the Islanders are averaging, 63.1 points per game and are only allowing opponents to score 58.3 points per game. They are shooting 39.7 percent from the floor and are shooting 28.6 percent (89-for-311) on three pointers. The Islanders are forcing its opponents into 20.3 turnovers per game and holding opponents to shoot 36.9 percent from the floor.

Earlier this season, the Cards and Islanders and faced off in Beaumont and Lamar came away with a 76-58 victory. LU had four players score in double-figures led by
Moe Kinard's 25 points.
Jadyn Pimentel followed with 19 points.
Miya Crump and
Chastadie Barrs followed with 18 points and 11 points respectful. Barrs led LU with nine assists and seven steals.

LAST TIME OUT – UIW
The home court winning streak for Lamar University women's basketball was extended to 40 games with a 79-53 victory over the University of the Incarnate Word. The 40 straight wins is the second longest streak in NCAA Division I women's basketball.

The win for Lamar is its 20th win of the season and is the third straight year the Cardinals have won 20 games. LU is 20-5 on the season and 13-1 in SLC play. UIW falls to 3-21 on the year and 3-10 in SLC play.

Robin Harmony. "It was a great win tonight and it was great seeing Moe break the LU school record for threes in a career. We have to focus on us and take care of business and not look ahead."

Barrs recorded eight steals in the contest and now has 608 in her career. She is 17 steals away from setting the NCAA Career Steals mark that was set following Natalie White's career at Florida A&M. White had 624 in her career.

With three minutes to go in the second quarter, Kinard hit her first three-pointer of the contest. The three-pointer gave her 205 for her career at Lamar. The 205 threes is a Lamar school record. She broke the record that was held by Jenna Plumley.

The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 27 when they travel to Houston, Texas to face Houston Baptist in Southland Conference action. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. from Sharp Gym.
