Tennis Looks to Build on Win Streak

BEAUMONT, Texas – Winners of four straight, the Lamar University men's tennis team (7-10/1-1 Southland) enters the week looking to extend a season-long win streak. The Cardinals will be in San Antonio, Texas Saturday and Sunday to take on Incarnate Word and UTSA.

The first of the two contests will be Saturday when the Red and White squares off against Incarnate Word in Southland Conference action. UIW enters the week a match under .500 on the season (8-9), but is one of three Southland schools still undefeated in league play. San Antonio's version of the Cardinals enter the week a match up on LU in the standings. UIW has lost two of its past three outings but is coming off a 6-1 victory over New Orleans.

Big Red has split its two conference matches this season dropping a three-point decision against Abilene Christian, while posting a 6-1 victory at New Orleans. The league takes the top four teams to the Southland Conference tournament -- which will be held in Beaumont later this month – and the Cardinals are currently a match up on Nicholls (4-10/1-3 SLC) for the fourth and final spot.

Saturday's match will begin at 1 p.m. from the Clarence Mabry Tennis Center in San Antonio.

The Cardinals will be back in action 24 hours later when they travel to the UTSA campus to take on the Roadrunners. A former member of the Southland Conference, UTSA enters the week with an 11-11 (.500) overall record. The 'Runners are coming off a three-point setback against Rice, but have won three of the past five outings. UTSA will host UT Arlington Friday before taking on the Cardinals.

Sunday's match will begin at 2 p.m. from the UTSA Tennis Center in San Antonio.
