34th-Ranked Aggies Overwhelm LU

Box Score COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Lamar University's youthful women's tennis team traveled to College Station, Texas Wednesday afternoon to face one of the toughest teams in the nation – No. 34 (ITA Top 50 Poll) Texas A&M. The Aggies (13-4) proved why they are so tough to beat recording a 7-0 victory over the Cardinals.

"Texas A&M is a very tough team and the proved why they are ranked so high," said LU head coach David Wong. "We knew today was going to be an uphill climb, but I thought we played hard. Although the end goal is always getting a victory, I think there are lessons that can be learned from today and will make us stronger moving forward."

The Aggies jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after taking all three doubles matches, despite some strong play from sophomore Jasmin Buchta and freshman Amelie Vossgaetter on court one. LU's top duo squared off against A&M's Eva Paalma and Domenica Gonzalez but came up just short in the end, 6-3.

LU (3-11) turned to the bottom of its lineup to even up the match in singles competition. After dropping the opening set, freshman Milena Belianovich flipped the script on Texas A&M's Iulia Ivascu. The Cardinals' freshman jumped out of the gate quickly in the second set pushing her opponent to the brink. Unfortunately, Ivascu was able to take a 6-5 advantage late in the set and held on for 7-5 victory to win the point.

The Cardinals were never able to answer back dropping the other five courts in straight sets.

Big Red now has to hit the reset button and get focused on a Southland Conference match against Central Arkansas. The match against the Sugar Bears will begin at noon Sunday from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.

It will be the team's lone home match until April 14th when the Cardinals host Southeastern Louisiana.
