GILBERT, Ariz. – Six members of the Lamar University women's tennis team have been named 2026 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes announced organization officials. Those players include senior
Savannah Bijlsma, junior
Martina Alcaino, sophomores
Asta Miettinen and
Luana Paiva and freshmen
Eva Gumenyuk and
Lera Zaginayko.
In addition to the scholar-athletes, Lamar women's tennis was also named a 2026 ITA All-Academic team by organization officials.
To be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, student-athletes must achieve and maintain a 3.5 grade-point average and be eligible to play during the current academic year. For the team to receive the honor, all student-athlete GPAs had to be included, and the team must maintain a 3.2 GPA throughout the entire year.
The six Cardinals accounted for nearly 84 percent of the teams' singles wins this past season and while recording 31 doubles victories. The future of the program is bright with five of the Cardinals' six selections still having eligibility remaining.
