Cardinals Set for Clash with ACU

BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University (13-6/2-0 Southland) is one of three remaining undefeated teams in the Southland Conference. The other two, Abilene Christian and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, are a part of a very tough closing stretch for the Cardinals. LU opens this tough three-match road swing Friday at Abilene Christian.

The Cardinals come into the Friday match as one of the league's hottest teams, with the only hiccup in the last two weeks of the schedule belonging to Mother Nature. The Cardinals have won four-straight matches, and were scheduled to host UT-Arlington this past Sunday for Senior Day but that match was canceled due to rain (no makeup date has officially been set for the match). Big Red has also won seven of its last eight matches stretching back to a three-point setback at LSU in February.

During that stretch, the Cardinals have seen their senior class take their game to another level. Michael Feucht and Nikita List have won four consecutive singles matches, while Jeandre Hoogenboezem has won his last three. In doubles, the team of Lis and Hoogenboezem has posted a 12-2 (.857) record at the No. 1 position this season, which includes a current 10-match win streak. Hoogenboezem and Lis have combined to win the Southland's last three player of the week awards as well.

The Wildcats have put together one of their strongest teams in program history. ACU enters the week with a 14-8 (.636) overall record and has won six consecutive matches. The Wildcats have not suffered a setback since a Mar. 3rd match at Rice.

ACU has been nearly unstoppable at home this season posting a 5-1 (.857) record, while the Cardinals have played .500 tennis away from Beaumont. The Cardinals are 6-6 this season when they travel out of Beaumont, including a 4-4 mark in road matches.

Friday's match is expected to begin at noon from the Eager Tennis Center. The Cardinals will then have a week to prepare for their match at Nicholls before closing out the 2017 regular season in their annual rivalry match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
