BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University men's tennis team travels north to close out its current five-match road swing with matches at Arkansas and Oral Roberts. In addition to closing out the road trip, the Cardinals (3-3) will also look to get back above the .500 mark on the season.
The Cardinals will be in Fayetteville, Ark., Saturday afternoon for a 10 a.m. match against the Razorbacks. Big Red will look to put an end to a two-match slide Saturday when it steps on the court against Arkansas. The Cardinals are coming off tough matches against two nationally ranked teams. After defeating Boise State, 4-2, in Los Angeles, Calif., LU dropped a four-point decision at No. 6 UCLA. The Cards then traveled to Houston to take on No. 14 Baylor in a neutral-site match. The Bears came out on top, 6-1, in that contest.
The Razorbacks are 2-5 (.286) on the season and have dropped three consecutive matches, and five of their last six. Arkansas is coming off a similar stretch of matches to that of the Cardinals. The Razorbacks have faced three consecutive matches against nationally ranked teams (No. 17 Illinois, No. 19 Michigan and No. 13 Oklahoma). The Razorbacks were outscored, 13-4, during that stretch.
The match against the Razorbacks will begin at 10 a.m. from the Billingsley Tennis Center.
The Cardinals will have a quick turnaround for their next match as they step back on the court less than 24 hours later. The Cardinals will be in Tulsa, Okla., Sunday, Feb. 12 to take on former Southland Conference foe Oral Roberts.
The Golden Eagles have jumped out to a hot start during the 2017 season posting a 4-1 (.800) record through their first five matches. ORU started the season by winning its first three contests before dropping a 7-0 decision at Oklahoma State. The Golden Eagles bounced back with a 4-1 victory at St. Louis last week. ORU will host Wichita State before taking on the Cardinals.
Sunday's match is slated to begin at 9 a.m. from the Philcrest Tennis Complex.
