BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University Cardinals go for their ninth straight win when they host the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions in a Southland Conference women's basketball game at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Montagne Center.
With a win, the Cardinals (9-3 overall, 2-0 Southland) would set a mark for the second-longest win streak in program history, behind only the 14-game string set in the 1990-91 season.
LU has been especially dominant at home this season, posting a 7-0 record at the Montagne Center and outscoring its opponents by an average of 34.3 points per game. The Cardinals come in off an impressive 73-42 conference win over visiting New Orleans on Thursday, as they held the Privateers to just 13 points in the second half, including a school-record two points in the fourth quarter.
The Cardinals lead the nation steals per game (14.5), turnover margin (plus 10.25) and turnovers forced (25.33 per game). LU's scoring margin of plus 16.2 is 29
th in the nation.

Chastadie Barrs I s third in the nation in steals, averaging 4.75 per game. Barrs has had at least one steal in all 43 games in her career. Teammate
Kiandra Bowers is 26
th in the nation, averaging 3.00 steals per contest. Bowers is also the national leader in offensive rebounds, averaging 6.08 offensive boards per game.
Barrs is also getting done at the other end of the court, as she leads the Southland Conference in assists, averaging 6.3 per game, good for 22
nd in the nation.
Moe Kinard leads LU in scoring, averaging 15.7 points per game. Bowers averages 12.3 points per game, while ranking second in the conference in rebounding at 9.9 per game.
Southeastern Louisiana (3-11, 1-2) snapped an eight-game losing skid with an 87-71 win at Houston Baptist on Thursday as Taylin Underwood scored 45 points, one shy of the school record.
Underwood leads the Lady Lions in scoring with an average of 17.9 points per game. Southeastern Louisiana has struggled on the boards this season, being outrebounded by an average of 14.1 per game.
Saturday's game is the opening contest of a hoops doubleheader, with the LU men taking on Southeastern Louisiana at 4:30 p.m. The game will be aired live on KLVI (AM 560) and streamed live on ESPN3.
Saturday is Daddy-Daughter Day, allowing for the purchase of two general-admission tickets at just $6 each. The LU sophomores will sign autographs after the game.
