BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's tennis team steps on the court Tuesday looking for its second consecutive victory as it prepares for the second of a three-match non-conference swing. The Cardinals (4-5/.444) will host Bradley Tuesday 11 a.m. followed by a home match against Rutgers (1 p.m.) the following day.
After dropping three straight, Big Red appears to have righted the ship with two wins in their last three matches. The Cardinals coming off an impressive 5-2 win over UNC Wilmington last Thursday in Houston. The match, which was originally scheduled to be played Wednesday in Beaumont saw three time changes and two venue changes due to heavy rains in the area before it was started. The Cardinals didn't let Mother Nature dampen their spirits as they carried the fight to the Seahawks picking up the three-point win.
The Cardinals will look to keep their winning ways going Tuesday when they take on Bradley. The Braves are 7-7 (.500) on the season but have struggled lately. Bradley comes to Beaumont having dropped three straight and five of its last six matches and is coming off a 5-2 setback against Wright State. The Braves last victory came in February against Western Illinois. BU recorded out 7-0 shutout of WIU.
The Scarlet Knights travel to the Golden Triangle in a similar position. Entering the week 5-6 (.455), Rutgers has dropped four of its last five outings and is coming off a 4-0 setback at Nebraska just two days ago. Rutgers' lone victory during that stretch was a 6-1 decision over Longwood. Rutgers will face Prairie View A&M before traveling to Beaumont.
The match against Bradley is slated to begin Tuesday at 11 a.m. LU will take on Rutgers the following day at 1 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
The Cardinals return to Southland action Saturday when it hosts Central Arkansas. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center. The Cards last conference match came March 6 at McNeese State. LU is currently 1-3 (.250) in league action.
UCA comes into the week 8-5 overall, but has dropped two of its last three contest. The Sugar Bears are coming off a 6-1 victory over Nicholls earlier this week.
