Cards Travel to UTRGV

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University men's tennis team closes out its season-opening five-match road swing Sunday when they travel to Edinburg, Texas to take on UT Rio Grande Valley (formerly UT-Pan American). The Cardinals bring a 2-2 (.500) record into the match, while the Vaqueros are also .500 (3-3) on the season and coming off a shutout win over Prairie View A&M, 7-0.

The Cardinals have split their first four matches with victories at Louisiana-Lafayette and Southern Mississippi. The two schools have faced a common opponent in top five Texas A&M this, but both have come up short against the Aggies. UTRGV's wins came against Concordia (Texas) and Maryland-Baltimore County.

The Cardinals are coming off a strong match over Southern Mississippi. After dropping the doubles point which came down to a tiebreak at No. 1 doubles, the Cardinals battled right back to take the first three singles matches for a commanding 3-1 lead. After USM pulled to within a point, Big Red locked up the victory in the next singles match.

The Cardinals will open the home portion of their schedule Friday, Feb. 12 when they host Prairie View A&M. The match against the Panthers will begin at 2 p.m.

Sunday's match against the Vaqueros will begin at noon from Edinburg, Texas.
