PEARLAND, Texas – Lamar University's
Mans Berglund fired a 5-under-par 67 in the second round to move into a tie for first place at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Monday.
Berglund birdied the final two holes of the day to move to 7-under-par for the tournament, putting him in a deadlock with Charlie Hillier of Kansas atop the leaderboard. Berglund and Hillier are three strokes ahead of UTSA's Sean Meehan, who sits all alone in third place at 4-under-par in the 80-man field.
Berglund is looking to become the third Cardinal in as many events to win medalist honors this fall. LU's
Zander Gous, the Southland Conference Golfer of the Month for September, opened the season with two straight wins.
"Mans was very solid today," LU coach
Jessie Mudd said. "He made all the putts he needed to in order to keep his momentum going. He's got a great chance of winning if he just sticks to his game plan and commits to each shot."
As a squad, the Cardinals are seventh in the 13-team event at 8-over-par 584 after rounds of 293 and 291. Kansas leads at 13-under-par 563, 11 strokes ahead of second-place Rice. LU is four strokes behind sixth-place UTSA.
Gous is tied for 35

Charlie Flowers is tied for 63
rd at 7-over 151 and

"Other than Mans, no one played their best, or close to their best today," Mudd said. "We had a great game plan, but sometimes golf just doesn't go your way. We'll re-evaluate our strategy and go out there and compete again on Tuesday."
Tuesday's final round is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. Admission to the tournament is free.
