COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Lamar University men's tennis team put up a valiant effort against the fifth-ranked Texas A&M Aggies before dropping a 7-0 decision in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon.

The Aggies (2-0) opened the match by earning the doubles point by winning at first and second doubles. The match at third doubles was left unfinished with LU's tandem of Juuso Laitinen and Sebastian Santibanez trailing Texas A&M's duo of Jordi Arconada and Max Lunkin 4-3.

In singles action, LU's Steven McMullan put up a tough fight at No. 6 singles against Henry Gordon, taking the first-set to a tiebreaker before eventually falling 7-6 (5), 6-4.

At first singles, LU's Michael Feucht, who earned the deciding point in Saturday's win at Louisiana-Lafayette, had the unenviable task of facing Texas A&M's Arthur Rinderknech, who is ranked fifth in the nation. Rinderknech came away with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

At second singles, LU's Nikita Lis hung tough before dropping a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Jodi Arconada. In other singles matches, LU's Benny Schweizer was defeated by Jackson Withrow 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3, Santibanez fell to Aleksandre Bakshi 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, while Jeandre Hoogenboezem was defeated by Frankie Colunga 6-1, 6-4 at fifth singles.

The Cardinals (1-2) return to action at 9 a.m. Sunday when they host Alcorn State in a non-conference doubleheader at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. The second match with the Braves is set to get under way at 1 p.m. Sunday.
