Harmony signs 3-year extension

April 28, 2015

BEAUMONT, Texas -- Lamar University women's basketball coach Robin Harmony signed a three-year contract extension that keeps her with the Lady Cardinals through the 2017-18 season, Lamar Director of Athletics Jason Henderson announced Tuesday.

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"Robin has done a phenomenal job in her first two seasons as the head coach of our women's basketball program," Henderson said. "We are excited about the where this program is headed, and that is all due to the efforts of Robin and her staff."

Harmony, who enters her third season at Lamar, guided the Lady Cardinals to a share of the Southland Conference regular-season title and a berth in the WNIT. Last season, the Lady Cardinals finished second in the Southland Conference with a 14-4 record, and were 17-13 overall.

In her two campaigns at Lamar, Harmony has mentored two first-team All-Southland Conference selections (Gia Ayers in 2013-14 and JaMeisha Edwards in 2014-15). Harmony has also seen two players earn first-team honors on the conference's all-defensive and all-academic squads.

"I'm excited to continue my career as a Lamar Cardinal," Harmony said. "The direction of our program is getting stronger every year."

The future looks bright for the Lady Cardinals, whose incoming class was ranked 84th in the nation and the highest in the Southland Conference by Allstar Girls Report, one of the top sources of player rankings in the nation. In addition, Harmony recently announced that guard Moesha Kinard will transfer to Lamar from the University of Houston, and will be eligible for the 2016-17 season.

"My staff has recruited two nationally ranked classes to ensure our continued success," Harmony said. "The support from our administration and great fans makes me proud to lead this program and be a part of this great university."

Harmony, a former standout at the University of Miami, where she is a member of the university's athletic hall of fame, came to Lamar after six years at St. Thomas University in Miami, where she was the program's first coach. She compiled an impressive 131-48 record at St. Thomas. A two-time Sun Conference Coach of the Year, Harmony led St. Thomas to three appearances in the NAIA National Tournament.

Prior to St. Thomas, Harmony spent 18 years on the staff at Miami, the last 12 seasons as associate head coach. She served as interim head coach for two games at Miami, winning both contests.
