BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar men's tennis team dominated Prairie View A&M 7-0 in the morning contest before the Cardinals traveled to Rice and fell 6-1 in the afternoon match in the Friday road double-header, both in non-conference action.
The nation's 29th-ranked combo of Nikita Lis and Michael Feucht defeated Prairie View's Avella and Waldren, 6-2, to open up doubles play. Lamar (3-2) won the doubles point after Juuso Laitinen and Benny Schweizer defeated Bruno Synder and Quintero, 6-1 and Jeandre Hoogenboezem and Mikko Rajamaki knocked out Jonathon Dingle and James Jackson, 6-0.
Trey Crysel and Steven McMullan also joined in the action downed Boyagueno and Malik Norris, 6-0.
From court one in singles play, Lis downed Waldren in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Feucht defeated Snyder 6-2, 6-3 on line two and Schweizer took out Avella, 6-2, 6-3. Hoogenboezem played on court four and knocked out Dingle, 6-2, 6-1.
Quintero fell to Rajamaki, 6-0, 6-0 on court five and Laitinen defeated Jackson, 6-1, 6-1 on six. After the PVAMU match, Rajamaki had not allowed a single point to opponents, singles or doubles, in two-straight matches.
Rice's Gustavo Gonzalez and Adam Gustafsson defeated Hoogenboezem and Rajamaki, 6-2 to open doubles play, but the Cardinals would pull even when Lis and Feucht defeated Max Andrews and David Warren.
The Owls took the double point after Srikar Alla and Jamie Malik defeated Laitinen and Schweizer in a tight 7-5 loss.
Rice eventually took the match after Gustafsson defeated Hoogenboezem, 6-0, 6-3, Andrews won over Schweizer, 7-5, 6-1 and Alla took down Lis 6-3, 7-5. Laitinen made it 4-1 when he beat Henrik Munch 6-4, 6-1. Feucht lost to Malik 6-4, 7-5 and Rajamaki fell to Warren, 7-5, 6-2.
The Cardinals will resume their season on Sunday when the face off with Alcorn State in a double-header that is slated for 10 o'clock at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. The women's team also faces Alcorn State on Sunday for a double-header.
