SAN ANTONIO - It was a day to remember for the Lamar men's tennis team on Friday as the Cardinals picked up their 13th win of the season with a 4-3 victory over Incarnate Word at Mabry Tennis Center.

The win total is tied for the most since the retirement of LU all-time winningest coach Ron Wesbrooks in 1987. It also marked just the third time that the Cards (13-12, 2-4 Southland) have finished the regular season with a winning record over the 27-year time span.

As has been the case for much of the season, it was a tight doubles round, but it was marked by a triumphant return for Michael Feucht, who had missed nearly the entire conference slate. The German teamed with Trey Crysel for an 8-6 victory at line three over Antonio Cavazos and Brandon Davis, and the tandem of Jeandre Hoogenboezem and Juuso Laitinen closed it out at No. 1, winning 8-7 over Leonard Ivic and Josip Smoljan.

Mikko Rajamaki kept it going for the Cards in singles play, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Cavazos at No. 6, and Hoogenboezem put the Red and White within a point of clinching, beating Davis 6-4, 6-4 at the fifth spot. Nikita Lis proved to be the death knell for the hosts as he handed Ivic a 7-5, 6-2 decision at line two.

In other singles action, Feucht made his return at the top spot but fell 6-7, 6-1, 10-5 to Jair Assuncao, and Laitinen dropped a 6-7, 6-0, 6-0 decision to Smoljan at No. 3. Carl-Philip Lindqvist lost 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth position to Tucker Brown.

The Cards will be looking to carry the momentum into next week's Southland Tournament in Corpus Christi.
