THIBODAUX, La. - A day after picking up a crucial win over UTPA, the Lamar men's tennis team fell 7-0 to Nicholls at Colonel Tennis Complex.

With the loss, the Cardinals dropped to 4-15 on the year with a 2-2 conference mark. Nicholls improved to 8-10 and 3-2, respectively.

"Nicholls was just the better team today," head coach Scott Shankles said. "I felt we needed to change pairings in doubles to get a boost, but that didn't work.  Then in singles, we fell behind too often to win four matches.  Nicholls definitely deserved the win."

The Colonels got started by sweeping through doubles play. The duos of Carl-Philip Lindqvist/Mikko Rajamaki and Steven McMullan/Bruno Snyder fell in 8-4 and 8-5 fashion, respectively, and the team of Trey Crysel and Rob Lee lost 8-2.

In singles, Lee fell 6-4, 6-3 to Damian Despotovski at No. 1, and Lindqvist lost 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2. In the third spot, Snyder was dealt a 6-3, 6-3 blow by Nico Mertens, and McMullan fell in a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Roy Knight at line four.

Evan Karatzas picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Rajamaki on court five, and Jeoffrey Noblecourt rounded out the performance for Nicholls with a 6-1, 6-0 victory vs. Crysel.

Lamar will return to action next week with a match at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to close out the regular season.
