SAN ANTONIO - Lamar captured the doubles point for the second time this season on Sunday, but it wouldn't be enough as the men's tennis team fell 6-1 to UTSA at UTSA Tennis Center.

"We played much smarter in doubles today," head coach Scott Shankles said. "We got off to better starts on two lines, and it paid off in winning both. It was not the same in singles, and we couldn't hold on to the energy from doubles. We have to get better at starting singles well, but all credit goes to UTSA for fighting hard. We can learn a lot from this weekend."

Trey Crysel earned just his second career win in doubles, teaming up with Carl-Philip Lindqvist for an 8-6 win over Joel Rubio and Hugo Guanis at No. 3, and the team of Mikko Rajamaki and Bruno Snyder won 8-5 over Tyler Brown and Kolby Kilgo.

Rob Lee and Steven McMullan fell 8-4 at the top spot to Martin Ayala and Diogo Casa.

Ayala and Casa also took home singles victories with the former winning 6-2, 6-0 over Lee at No. 1 and the latter winning 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 over Lindqvist.

Snyder lost 6-3, 6-2 at the third spot to Brown, and McMullan dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision at line four.

At No. 5, David Kelleher beat Rajamaki 6-3, 6-4, and Crysel fell 6-2, 6-0 to Kilgo at the sixth position.

The Cards will return to action next week for two more road matches, taking on both Tulane and New Orleans in New Orleans.
