Carolina Salas continued her hot play in both singles and doubles to lead the Lamar University women's tennis team to a 4-3 non-conference win at Arkansas State on Monday.
Salas won her third straight match at No. 1 singles and teamed with Alicia Porte for a third consecutive win at No. 1 doubles for the Lady Cardinals (11-8), who ran their winning streak to five matches.
Salas rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Mariana Rong to improve her singles record to 14-5, all at No. 1 singles. Porte and Salas were 8-1 victors over Rong and Ioana Teu to boost their record at No. 1 doubles to 8-4.
Lamar opened the match by winning two out of three matches for the doubles point as Carolina Maso and Helene Czudek were triumphant at No. 3 doubles for their sixth consecutive win.
That doubles point would prove to be critical for the Lady Cardinals as Lamar and Arkansas State split the six singles matches. In addition to Salas' victory, Lamar got singles wins from Maso at No. 3 singles and Czudek at sixth singles. Czudek's victory ran her winning streak at singles to four matches.
"Winning the doubles point was huge again today," Lamar coach David Wong said. "Today was another hard-fought battle."
Tamara Slijepcevic, Biljana Miloshevska and Ioana Teu won at singles for Arkansas State (9-8).
The Lady Cardinals return to Southland Conference play when they travel to UTSA at 11 a.m. Saturday.
