Cardinals can't stop Roadrunners

Box Score

BEAUMONT, Texas - Rob Lee and Carlos Valdenebro registered singles wins for Lamar as the Cardinals dropped a 5-2 decision to visiting UTSA in a Southland Conference men's tennis match Thursday.

Lee posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Yannick Junger at No. 1 singles, while Valdenebro was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Joel Rubio at No. 4 singles.

UTSA (10-9 overall, 2-1) opened the match by taking the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The Roadrunners won four of the six singles matches against Lamar (6-7, 0-2).

"Just like our loss to Nicholls, we lost the doubles point when we had chances ad momentum to win it," Lamar coach Scott Shankles said. "It's a tall mountain to climb in singles when you're down 1-0 after doubles"

Lamar opens a four-match road swing with a non-conference match at Louisiana=Lafayette at 1 p.m. Saturday.

"We need to regroup for Louisiana-Lafayette," Shankles said. "ULL is tough this year. We must play better as a team to beat them. Not just a few guys, all six players."
