Box Score

DALLAS - Denis Ermilov recorded the only point for the Lamar University men's tennis team in a 6-1 non-conference loss at SMU on Sunday.

Ermilov posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over SMU's Pablo Perez-Esnaola at No. 2 singles. Two other matches went three sets, with Marton Horvath falling at No. 3 singles and Bruno Snyder dropping a decision at No. 5 singles.

"We just need to work hard at closing out opportunities," Lamar coach Scott Shankles said. "We made nice strides since our first match against Rice."

Lamar dropped the doubles point despite an 8-6 win by Robert Lee and Horvath over Joseph Hattrup and Tobias Flood at No. 1 doubles.

"Marton and Rob played very aggressive and it paid off," Shankles said.  "They got off to a good start, which made the difference. "

Lamar fell to 0-2, SMU is 3-1.

The Cardinals return to action when they host Abilene Christian at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
