BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University men's tennis team claimed a 4-3 win over visiting Louisiana-Lafayette in a non-conference match at the Thompson Family Tennis Center on Sunday.
The Cardinals (9-11) opened by taking two of three doubles matches for what proved to be an important point at doubles. The Cardinals would win three of the six singles matches, with two of the victoires in three sets, to earn the team victory.
The win came one day after the Cardinals dropped a 4-3 decision to visiting UT Arlington in a match that decided third place in the Southland Conference.
"I am incredibly proud of the team bouncing back after (Saturday's) loss to beat a tough, well-coached Louisiana-Lafayette team," Lamar coach Scott Shankles said. "This win will give is confidence heading into the Southland Conference Tournament."
Senior Diego Snyder closed out the home portion of his Lamar career with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Elliot Minvielle at No. 6 singles after teaming with Carlos Valdenebro for an 8-2 win over Carlin Murray and Ted Nilsson at No. 2 doubles.
Diego played his best doubles match all season today, and followed it up in singles as well," Shankles said.
Valdenebro and Marton Horvath also won at singles for Lamar. Louisiana-Lafayette dropped to 7-12.
Lamar is idle until meeting top-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament at 11 a.m. April 30 at UTSA in San Antonio.
