SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Lamar University men's tennis team opened 2011 Southland Conference play with a 5-2 loss at UTSA on Saturday.

Lamar (2-4 overall, 0-1 SLC) picked up a pair of singles victories as Carlos Valdenebro and Dusan Savkovic improved to 4-2 on the season. Valdenebro registered a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Max Stratmann at No. 4 singles, while Savkovic picked up a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles.

UTSA improved to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Lamar is at St. Edward's for a non-conference match at 10 a.m. Sunday.
