LU men's tennis tops Abilene Christian

BEAUMONT, Texas - Denis Ermilov and Dusan Savkovic rallied from an early deficit en route to a 9-7 win at second doubles to set the tone for the Lamar University men's tennis team en route to a 5-2 victory over Abilene Christian in a non-conference match at the Lamar Tennis Facility on Sunday.

The win by Ermilov and Savkovic over Bryan Joiner and Nick Plum secured the doubles point for Lamar and sparked the Cardinals (2-3). Ermilov and Savkovic also won at singles for Lamar. Ermilov coming out on top at second singles, while Savkovic won at No. 5 singles. Carlos Valdenebro and Diego Snyder were the other singles winners for Lamar. Snyder rallying for a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (5) win at No. 6 singles after being down 5-2 in the third set.

"We played with pride and intensity," Lamar coach Scott Shankles said. "I'm very proud of the effort we had today."

Hans Hoch and Jack Hendrie won at singles for Abilene Christian (1-2).

Lamar is idle until opening Southland Conference play at UTSA on Feb. 26.
