NEW ORLEANS - The Lamar University men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to the University of New Orleans on Monday.
The decision came down to No. 1 singles, where Benjamin Bouhana of the host Privateers held on for a 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5) victory over Lamar's Robert Lee to give New Orleans (1-0) the team victory.
"It was a great match," Lamar coach Scott Shankles said. "We just came up a little bit short."
Carlos Valdenebro, Marton Horvath and Dusan Savkovic claimed singles victories for the Cardinals (1-3), who were playing their second match in less than 24 hours. Lamar dropped a 6-1 decision at Tulane in a match that didn't conclude until almost 10 p.m. Sunday.
"We continue to show improvement," Shankles said. "I'm seeing a lot of positive signs."
Lamar returns to action when it travels to Dallas for a noon match on Super Bowl Sunday.
