Results

BEAUMONT - Behind solid singles play the Lamar University men's tennis team picked up a 4-3 win over Abilene Christian Sunday afternoon at the Cardinal Courts.

The ACU Wildcats picked up the first point of the day by winning the doubles point, but Lamar responded with victories at the top four spots in singles play.

With the match tied at three points apiece, the deciding point came down the match at No. 3 singles, as Marton Horvath battled with Luke Hawk. The first set was claimed by Hawk 6-3, who appeared poised to win the match before Horvath pulled out a 7-6 win in the second set. In the deciding set Horvath used the momentum from the second set victory to run away for a 6-1 win to claim the match for LU.

The Cardinals other three victories came from Maciej Bogusz, who defeated Eldad Campbell 7-6, 6-3 at No. 1, Maria Janjic who took out Ryan Hudson 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 and Richard Filkuka who beat Quentin Peterson-Paul 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4.

With the win the Cardinals improve to 7-6 on the year. They will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Lubbock, Texas for a 1 p.m. showdown with the Red Raiders at 1 p.m.
