Results

BEAUMONT - The Lamar University men's tennis team returned to action over the weekend, winning a pair of matches over Grambling State and Alcorn State at the Cardinal Courts on Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals dominated their SWAC opponents, winning 13 singles contest and five of six doubles matches for a pair of 7-0 wins.

In their first action of the day the Cards ran through Grambling, as all five singles matches were won in straight sets, while the match at No. 6 was won by default. Mario Janjic won at No. 1 6-2, 7-6 over Nicolas Rufyikiri, Maciej Bogusz cruised past Ryan Charles 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 and Marton Horvath was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at No. 3 over Anton Belikov. In the match at No. 4 Richard Filkuka handed Victor Semerdjieva 6-1, 6-1 and Diego Snyder was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Emmanuel Fortune at No. 5.

In doubles play LU won by default at No. 3 while Horvath and Dusan Savkovic paired for an 8-4 win over Fortune and Charles at No. 2. The match at No. 1 was won by LU as Bogusz and Tobias Schnieder knocked out Semerdjieva and Rufyikiri 8-4.

In the second match of the day, the Cardinals continued to roll, led by Janjic who posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 over Anton Krutkin, while Bogusz held on for a 6-1, 4-6, 10-4 victory over Winfried Weinbeer at No. 2. The match at No. 3 was claimed by Horvath, who took out Alexander Hidzar 6-0, 6-2; Filkuka won 6-3, 6-3 over Shearron Hawkins at No. 4; Snyder posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex Dominguez at No. 5 and Schnieder took out P. Rajpurohit 6-0, 6-0 in the six spot.

In double action the Cards won the point at Savkovic and Horvath defeated Hidzar and Dominguez 8-4 at No. 2 and Janjic and Snyder posted an 8-4 win over Rajpurohit and Weinbeer at No. 3. The tandem of Bogusz and Schnieder were downed by Krutkin and Hawkins 8-5 at No. 1 for the only loss of the day for Lamar.

The Cardinals, who will be back in action on Saturday at SMU, improve to 2-1 on the year with the victories.
