Results

BEAUMONT - The Lamar University men's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to UT Arlington in the Southland Conference opener for both teams, Tuesday afternoon at the Cardinal Courts.

The Cardinals began the match by claiming the doubles point with victories at two and three. Richard Filkuka and Dusan Savkovic defeated Adam Srkala and Brieuc Hamon 8-6 at No. 2, while Mario Janjic and Diego Snyder took down David Subirats and Gonzalo Bienzobas 8-6 at No. 3. The match at No. 1 was claimed by UTA 8-6.

In singles play the Cards picked up a pair of wins at four and five, but the Mavericks were able to pick up four points with wins at one, two, three and six. Filkuka handled Skrala 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 and Snyder was a 7-5, 7-5 winner over Jason Lateko at No. 5.

The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, March 7 when they host the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff at 10 a.m.
