HOUSTON - The Lamar University men's tennis team opened the 2009 season Sunday afternoon at the Jake Hess Tennis Center in Houston, Texas, where they faced the nations No. 24 team Rice. The Owls proved to be worthy of their top 25 ranking, handing LU a 7-0 loss.
The Owls opened the match by claiming the doubles point with a sweep of Lamar, then won all six singles matches for the 7-0 win. The strongest LU effort came from Maciej Bogusz who dropped a three set decision to Chong Wang 7-6, 1-6, 12-10.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday January 31, when they host Grambling State and Alcorn State in their 2009 home opener at the Cardinal Courts. Action is set to get under way at 10 a.m. with LU taking on Grambling
