Box Score

Kansas State scored four runs and held Lamar's offense in check en route to a 4-1 win over the Cardinals at Vincent-Beck Stadium in the Cardinal Classic, present by the YMBL Saturday.

Lamar (3-3) was held to a season-low five hits while Kansas State (2-3) got six innings of four-hit, one-run ball from starter Justin Murray. Neither team walked any batters.

K-State took a 2-0 lead with two out in the fourth on a Nate Tenbrink two-run home run off the scoreboard in right field.

The Wildcats added to the lead an inning later when they strung together three-consecutive singles to load the bases. Jacob Cruz hit a hard shot to the right of first baseman Keith Towne that caromed off his glove and allowed Dane Yelovich to score on the draw-in infield. Adam Muenster then came home on a Drew Biery sac fly to deep center.

Lamar scored a run in the fifth when David Moore singled and scored from first on a double to right center by designated hitter Brent Harris.

Justin Walker (0-2) suffered his second loss after striking out six in eight innings - the longest outing of his career.

The Cardinals also got one hit apiece from Anthony Moore, Jeff Vickers and Jeremiah Sammy.

Lamar will face Arkansas State on Sunday at 3 p.m. That game will be preceded by Kansas State-Michigan State at 11 a.m.
