BEAUMONT, Texas — Chase Lummus enters his first season at Lamar University in 2027 after joining the Cardinals as the pitching coach in June 2026.

"I am super excited to be at a university such as Lamar," Lummus said. "The opportunity to get back into the great state of Texas at a program like Lamar was one I could not pass up. I can't wait to get to work with the arms at the Beck."

Prior to arriving in Beaumont, Lummus spent one season at Virginia Tech in 2026 after joining the Hokies as director of pitching performance and baseball analytics in July 2025.

Lummus arrived in Blacksburg, Va., following six seasons with the Texas Longhorns, including five years as a pitcher and the 2025 season as the Longhorns' bullpen coach.

Working under head coach Jim Schlossnagle and pitching coach Max Weiner, he helped oversee pitcher development, advanced scouting and analytics.

Texas finished 44-14 in 2025, earned the No. 2 national seed in the NCAA tournament and ranked among the nation's leaders in ERA (3.71), WHIP (1.18) and hits allowed per nine innings (7.13).

Known for his work in pitch modeling and advanced scouting, Lummus specializes in using data and analytics to evaluate pitchers and build individualized development plans.

As a student-athlete, Lummus pitched five seasons at Texas after overcoming Tommy John surgery early in his career.

He made his collegiate debut in 2023 and finished his career with 26 appearances over the 2023 and 2024 seasons with a 3-1 record in 37.2 innings with 32 strikeouts.

During his six years with the Longhorns, Texas compiled a 233-102 record, reached five NCAA tournaments, advanced to three Super Regionals and made two College World Series appearances.

A native of Godley, Lummus earned his bachelor's degree in communications from Texas in 2023.
