LUBBOCK, Texas - With five inches of snow covering the ground in Lubbock, Texas, the Lamar University men's tennis team took their match with New Mexico State indoors. The Cardinals picked up a pair of singles wins, but could not pull out the victory, falling 4-2.
Filip Kanczula battled for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory over Gustave Diep at the No. 1 position, where he fought back after dropping the first set. Mario Janjic cruised to a win at No. 2, taking out Roman Stoisavljevic 6-2, 6-4 for the Cards second win.
Emmanuel Olivier fell 6-1, 7-5 to Alejandro de Mucha at No. 5 Eduardo Salas knocked off Andres Medina, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6, and David Wanja fell at No. 4 6-2, 6-4 to Brice Magnanou.
The deciding point of the match came at No. 3 singles, where New Mexico State's Stjepan Beg battled past LU's Maciej Bogusz for a 6-7, 6-2, 6-4, win. Due to the weather conditions, no doubles matches took place and the match was decided at 4-2.
The loss drops the Cards to 8-10 on the year, while the Aggies improved 8-8. Lamar will be back in action on Friday, when they travel to Corpus Christi for an important Southland Conference showdown with the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at noon.
