Brittney Williams Named Aeropostale SLC Player of the Week

Jan. 15, 2007

FRISCO, Texas - After helping Lamar to a 2-0 record last week, which included an 81-71 win at Stephen F. Austin, the defending league regular-season champions on Thursday, Lady Cardinal freshman Brittney Williams was selected Aeropostale Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week as announced by league officials today.

Williams averaged 18 points and nine rebounds per game against Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State last week, as Lamar sits atop the Eastern Division standings at 3-0. She sank 14-22 field goals for a 63.6 shooting percentage for the week, and was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line.

Against Stephen F. Austin on Thursday, she posted her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points on 7-12 shooting and grabbing 12 rebounds. She was also 6-6 from the free throw line in the 81-71 come from behind win, just the third victory for Lamar all time against the Ladyjacks. Against Sam Houston State on Saturday, Williams scored 16 points on 7-10 shooting and grabbed six rebounds in LU's 81-49 win.

Williams is 11th in league play in scoring and eighth in league play in rebounding at 12.6 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. She ranks third on the team in scoring and leads the Lady Cardinals on the boards.

Williams and the Lady Cardinals will be in action again on Thursday when they head to Conway, Arkansas for their first ever meeting against the Sugar Bears of Central Arkansas at 6 p.m.
