BEAUMONT - The Lamar University men's tennis team dropped to 1-1 in Southland Conference play with a 6-1 loss to the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana, Sunday morning at the Cardinal Courts.
The Cards and Lions opened the match with a battle for the doubles point which Southeastern pulled out by winning two of the three matches. The weekend with a Friday afternoon match up against the nationally ranked Red Raiders. Tech posted a 7-0 win over Lamar, winning all of the matches in doubles and singles.
The Cardinals No. 1 team of Filip Kanczula and Maciej Bogusz picked up a big win over the No. 57 ranked pair of Harris Huremovic and Ondrej Krivka, 8-5. The Lions however earned the double point by collecting wins at two and three. At No. 2, Evan Hays and Wesley Arnold fell to Julien Lousao and Matthieu Leboucher 8-3 while Tyler Cobb and Brett Sticker fell in a heartbreaker 9-7 to Oliver Zieleniecki and Ilie Babinciuc.
In singles action, at No. 1, Kanczula picked up the lone point in the match for Lamar, taking out Huremovic 6-3, 6-3.
The Lions swept throw the Cards in the rest of the singles matches, cruising to the 6-1 victory. At No. 2 Bogusz fell to Leboucher 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3, Arnold was taken down by Babinciuc, 6-1, 6-1 and at No. 4, Hays fell to Krivka 6-1, 6-1. At No. 5 Vladimir Paunic cruised past Sticker, 6-1, 6-1 and Cobb was topped by Lousao 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 6 spot.
The Cards, 3-11 on the year, will be in action again Saturday afternoon when they take on Central Oklahoma at 2 p.m. in Arlington.
