BEAUMONT - The Lamar University men's tennis team dropped to 1-4 in Southland Conference play with a 4-3 loss to Nicholls State Sunday afternoon at the Cardinal Courts.
Playing without a pairing at No.3 doubles, Nicholls was able to pull out the doubles point, as Vlad-Lucian Popa and Sebastien Normand outlasted Filip Kanczula and Maciej Bogusz 9-7, while Denis Borisevich and Alexandru Silav defeated Wesley Arnold and Evan Hays 8-5 to take the point.
In singles action, at No. 1, Kanczula and Bogusz picked points for Lamar, as Kanczula took down out Normand 7-6, 6-1 to improve to 4-1 in SLC play, and Bogusz came from behind for a 3-6, 7-5, 10-7 win at No. 2.
The Colonels however took the other three matches to win the match 4-3. At No.3 Borisevich beat Arnold 6-2, 6-3, Alexandru Silav defeated Evan Hays 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, and at the five spot van Bolderic took out Sticker 6-1, 6-1.
The Cards, 3-15 on the year, will be in action again Wednesday when they take on Grambling State at 1 p.m. at the Cardinal Courts.
