BEAUMONT - The Lamar University men's tennis team dropped to 1-3 in Southland Conference play with a 6-1 loss to Roadrunners of UT-San Antonio Saturday afternoon at the Cardinal Courts.
The Roadrunners quickly asserted themselves in the match by sweeping the doubles for the first point of the match.
The Cardinals No. 1 team of Filip Kanczula and Maciej Bogusz picked fell to Jonas Hoglund and Andre Moreira 8-5 in the top singles spot, Evan Hays and Wesley Arnold fell to Hetori Chaves and Anthony Portois 8-3 at No. 2, while Tyler Cobb and Brett Sticker fell in a heartbreaker 8-2 to Adam Becker and Joe Michael Olfindo at No. 3.
In singles action, at No. 1, Kanczula picked up the lone point in the match for Lamar, taking out Hoglund 6-4, 6-2 to improve to 3-1 in SLC play.
The Lions swept threw the Cards in the rest of the singles matches, cruising to the 6-1 victory. At No. 2 Bogusz fell to Moreira 7-6, 6-0, at No. 3, Arnold was taken down by Portois, 6-3, 6-0 and at No. 4, Hays fell to Fernandes 6-2, 6-3. At No. 5 Adam Becker took down Sticker, 6-2, 6-3 and Chaves cruised past Cobb 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 6 spot.
The Cards, 3-14 on the year, will be in action again Sunday morning when they take on Nicholls State at 11 a.m. at the Cardinal Courts.
