Men's Tennis Drops Two in Lubbock

Lubbock, Texas - The Lamar University men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches over the weekend, falling to No. 38 Texas Tech and New Mexico State in Lubbock.

The Cards opened the weekend with a Friday afternoon match up against the nationally ranked Red Raiders. Tech posted a 7-0 win over Lamar, winning all of the matches in doubles and singles.

In doubles play, at No. 1, Filip Kanczula and Maciej Bogusz fell to Adrian Prpic and Christian Rojmar 8-2. At No. 2, Evan Hays and Wesley Arnold fell to Dimitrio Martinez and Michael Breler 8-2 while Tyler Cobb and Brett Sticker were downed by Teddy DiBlasi and Jay Wofford 8-2, at the No. 3 spot.

In singles action, at No. 1, Kanczula was edged by Prpic 6-3, 3-6, 10-5, Bogusz fell to Dimitrio Martinez 6-2, 6-2, while at No. 3, Arnold was taken down by Rojmar, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 4, Sinisa Markovic blanked Hays, 6-0, 6-1. Teddy DiBlasi cruised past Sticker, 6-0, 6-1 and Cobb was topped by Mario Janjic 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 6 spot.

On Saturday the Cardinals again struggled, falling to the Aggies of New Mexico State 7-0.

The Cardinals picked up one win in doubles play, as Tyler Cobb and Brett Sticker defeated Christian Halligan and Jeffrey Pfeifer 9-8 at No. 3. Lamar however dropped matches at one and two as Kanczula and Maciej Bogusz fell to Stjepan Beg and Brice Magnanou 8-3, Evan Hays and Wesley Arnold fell to Roman Stoisavljevic and Tim America 8-4.

The Cards also struggled in singles play, dropping all their matches in straight sets. At the number one position, Kanczula fell to Magnanou 6-1, 6-4, Bogusz was dropped by Beg 6-3, 6-3 at the number two spot and Arnold was downed by Stoisavljevic at the number three position 6-1, 6-0. In the fourth, fifth and sixth positions, Christian Halligan took down Hays 6-0, 6-2, America downed Brett Sticker 6-4, 6-1 and Tyler Cobb was downed by Jeff Pfeifer 6-1, 6-1.

Lamar will return home for homecoming weekend, when they host Southeastern Louisiana on March 5. The weekend will also include an alumni match, which will be held on Saturday, March 4.
