BEAUMONT - Lamar's Mike James has been named the Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Monday.
James, who also won the honor on Dec. 19, will lead the Cardinals into their Southland Conference opener at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on the Southland Conference Television Network (Time Warner Channel 15) and streamed live on SLC NOW on Southland.org and on ESPN3.
James opened the week by scoring a season-high 29 points against No. 3 Kentucky as the Cardinals fell 86-64. The senior guard from Portland, Ore., made 13-of-29 from the floor, adding three rebounds and three steals in 39 minutes of playing time.
James played just 22 minutes in the Cards' lopsided 102-58 win over Lyon College on Saturday, finishing with 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. He was 5-of-10 from the floor and 1-of-2 from 3-point range.
For the week, James averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game. James has upped his scoring average to a team-leading 14.5 points per game, good enough for fifth in the Southland Conference.
Fellow senior Anthony Miles has also earned the Southland's weekly honor twice, giving Lamar four of the eight awards that have been handed out this season.
