Several Cardinals Advance to Flight Finals

| By:
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Day two of the Jake Frederick Memorial Islander Open was just as positive for Lamar University as the opening day. Three Cardinals have advanced to the singles championship match of their respective flight, along with a doubles team (Axel Bergh and Rintaro Shukuda).

Junior Louis Drapeau got things started for the Red and White with a three-set victory in the Orange Flight semifinals. Drapeau ousted Abilene Christian's David Kirchner, 6-3, 3-6, 15-13 and will face ACU's Grant Lothringer in the championships.

Junior Fabian Anthin followed suit in the Yellow Flight. He squared off against UT Rio Grande Valley's Paolo Benedicto Bonaguro La Roche. Anthin won the match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Dan Milburn advanced with a straight-sets victory in the Gold Flight over Abilene Christian's Griffin Lovern, 6-4, 6-1.

The duo of Bergh and Shukuda were dominant in their match against A&M-Corpus Christi's Andres Delgadillo and Dan Hosono. Lamar's pairing ousted the Islanders, 6-3, to advance. They will face ACU's Alejandro Verdasco and David Kirchner in Sunday's final.
