BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University's cross country teams head to College Station to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational Friday. The meet will take place on the Watts Cross Country Course. The race will mark the second consecutive week the Cardinals have competed.
Both teams opened 2026 with third-place finishes at the McNeese Season Opener. The women scored 48 points in the 3,000-meter race, with five runners placing in the top 20. Senior
Ashton Rainey led the way, crossing the line fourth (10:07.6). The next four runners to cross the line were freshmen
Aubrey Garcia (9th; 10:30.77),
Sara Verschure (10th; 10:38.18),
Madison Akers (11th; 10:46.62) and
Lily Davis (14th; 10:54.91).
The men's team tallied 65 points in the 5K, with five runners finishing in the top 20.
Adrian Hahn Vadstein was the lone LU male runner in the top 10 after he crossed the line in ninth (15:08.66). The six LU runners behind him were in three pairs, with
Ryan Servantes (15:10.74) and
Alexis Rodriguez (15:13.56) finishing 11th and 12th,
Guillaume Dupre (15:27.27) and
Kenny Bibb taking 16th and 17th while
Dominick Luna (15:41.19) and
Riley Trent (15:43.16) were 21st and 22nd.
Alongside A&M, the Cardinals will be one of 17 teams competing in the meet. Also running in this meet are Baylor, Blinn College, Houston, UIW, UL Lafayette, Our Lady of the Lake, Prairie View A&M, SMU, Sam Houston, St. Edwards, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, Texas, UT-Dallas, and UT-Tyler.
The race will start at 8 a.m., as the men will begin with the 8K run while the women will have their 5K meet afterwards.
