BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University resumes its outdoor track and field season with a trip to College Station to compete in Texas A&M's 44 Farms Invitational. That meet will be a three-day event starting Thursday and running through Saturday.
In their most recent meet, the Cardinals sent a split squad to Stephen F. Austin's Carl Kite Invitational in Nacogdoches and the Texas Relays in Austin. In Nacogdoches, LU recorded 12 top-three finishes with
Krystan Bright earning the only victory in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.33), setting a new personal best. She also claimed second in the women's 100-meter hurdles (14.15), which was the fastest time of any collegiate athlete.
Other notable performers were
Elias Kraut taking second in the decathlon (6,015 points), which included eight top-five finishes and two firsts,
Amber Simpson placing third in the heptathlon (4,449) while earning four top-five finishes and a pair of second place results from
Ke'Asia Hall in the long jump (5.77m/18-11.25) and triple jump (11.79m/38-8.25).
In Austin, Sophia Saldutto had the best finish, taking third in the javelin (44.16m/144-10), while
Anthony Oliver broke his own school hammer throw record by becoming the first Cardinal to launch a throw of 200 feet (61.54m/201-11).
LU is one of 28 programs competing in the meet along with A&M, Arkansas, Boise State, Cincinnati, East Texas A&M, Houston, Houston Christian, High Point, Jacksonville College, Michigan State, New Mexico, North Texas, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, SMU, Texas, Texas Southern, Tulane, UIW, UL Monroe, UT Arlington, UTSA, Vanderbilt, Wichita State and Yale.
Eloise Duboscq and Mariam Buenanueva-Saleme will start the meet for the Cardinals by competing in the women's heptathlon Thursday, beginning at noon. The field events will start Friday at 10 a.m. with the men's discus, while the women's 200m starts the track circuit at 6 p.m.
