FRISCO, Texas – Lamar University junior thrower
Anthony Oliver has been tabbed by the Southland Conference as the Men's Field Athlete of the Week after a school-record-breaking performance in the hammer throw at the Texas Relays. This is the first weekly honor for Oliver's career.
On his third of six attempts, Oliver (Richmond, Texas) became the first Cardinal to record a launch of 200 feet (61.54m/201-11) and earned seventh place. This bested his own school record of 59.70m (195-10), which he had achieved at the Prairie View A&M Relays a week prior.
Oliver's mark is currently the furthest in the conference and ninth in the NCAA Division I South Central region. In addition, he had a top 15 finish in the discus with 47.48m (155-9) to take 13th.
Oliver becomes the first Cardinal to receive an SLC Athlete of the Week nod since
Kenson Tate in 2024.
The Cardinals continue their outdoor season by heading to College Station for the three-day Texas A&M's 44 Farms Invitational starting Thursday and running through Saturday. Oliver will compete in the discus (10 a.m.) and the hammer throw (4:30 p.m.) Friday.
