BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar University's men's golf team turns its attention to the Southland Conference tournament.
The three-day event will be held Monday through Wednesday, April 20-22, at Comanche Trace in Kerrville.
First-round play is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
The final round will be broadcast live on
ESPN+ with coverage from the 18th hole.
LAST TIME OUT
LU last competed at the Tiger Intercollegiate on April 7 in Columbia, Mo.
The Cardinals finished 17th in a competitive field.
Filip Widepalm led the way, tying for 24th overall after posting a second-round score of 68.
SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
David Schneider Jerez, the Southland Conference Co-Golfer of the Month for March, leads the Cardinals with a 71.8 stroke average over 30 rounds, totaling 2,154 strokes.
He also paces the team with 16 rounds of par or better and has recorded three top 10 finishes.
Schneider posted the program's best 54-hole score this season with a 206 at the Sandestin Collegiate Classic and carded the lowest single-round score of the year — a 63 during the second round of the Louisiana Classics.
Nathan Woodham ranks second on the team with a 72.8 stroke average and 15 rounds of par or better.
He recorded the Cardinals' best individual finish of the season, tying for fourth at the Border Olympics.
Matthew Bramford is third with a 73.7 stroke average and 11 rounds of par or better.
The Cardinals have recorded six top 10 finishes this season, highlighted by a championship at the Golden Nugget Invitational.
LU set a new program record with a 54-hole tournament score of 823 at the Golden Nugget, eclipsing the previous mark of 825.
COMPETING IN THE POSTSEASON
The Cardinals finished fourth at last season's conference tournament, two strokes behind third place UT Rio Grande Valley.
Since 2022, the Cardinals have recorded three top five finishes at the Southland Conference tournament.
Their best result during that span was a second-place finish in 2024, marking the program's best conference showing since 2021.
LU has won a league-record 24 Southland Conference titles, the most of any school in the conference, with the most recent championship coming in 2012.
The Cardinals have also captured a league-record 19 individual titles, with the most recent coming in 2012, won by M.J. Daffue.
This is the fifth time since 2007 the tournament is being held at Comanche Trace.
