FRISCO, Texas – The brackets for the 2026 Southland Conference Tennis Championships have been released by the league office and Lamar University will open the tournament as the No. 4 overall seed. The Cardinals (12-13/3-2 SLC) ended the regular season in a three-way tie for second in the standings but due to the tiebreak scenarios received the No. 4 overall seed.
Big Red is set to open tournament play Monday, April 20
th against the league's other Cardinals, UIW. San Antonio's version of the Cardinals earned the No. 1 overall seed after posting a 13-3 mark and a 5-0 record in SLC matches.
UIW defeated Lamar in Beaumont earlier this season with the match coming down to the bitter end. The final two courts to finish came right down to a third set but LU was edged out on both courts for the final score.
The other side of the bracket will see No. 2-seed UT Rio Grande Valley take on No. 3 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Both opening round contests will take place Monday at 10 a.m. with the two winners meeting Tuesday, April 21
st at 10 a.m. for the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.
The tournament will officially get under way Sunday with the opening-round matches of the women's tournament beginning at 10 a.m. All matches will take place at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center on College Street.
